The lack of transparency and regulation in the international art market makes prices difficult to track. This is especially true in the primary art market. As a result, visual emerging artists often struggle when facing the necessity to put a price to their own work.

In this seminar we will explore what the elements are that give economic value to a work of art and how the main art market players (collectors, auction houses, gallerists, museums) can affect the price of an artist's work.

We will reflect on what those objective elements are that you, as an artist, can base your pricing decision on and how important a well-though pricing strategy is for an artist's career.

We will work to understand:

  1. How the international contemporary art market works
  2. How prices are formed in the art market
  3. The symbolic meaning of prices
  4. What to consider when deciding your own personalized pricing strategy
